Centennial Auto-Sport & Tire Is PEI's Exclusive Home For Surron Off-Road Electric Bikes – FAQs, Specs, Price, Video

Oct. 17 2022 Announcements By Centennial Auto-Sport & Tire

Priced from an absolutely ridiculous $5,900, the 2022 Surron Light Bee X is an all-electric, off-road, all-terrain, aluminum-frame, 110-pound bike. There's a lot to unpack here, especially at Centennial Auto-Sport & Tire, where Surron brings us into an entirely new product category. In Charlottetown and Summerside, Centennial Auto-Sport & Tire is now the exclusive destination for Surron in Prince Edward Island. Initially, that means the arrival of a number of Surron Light Bee X electric bikes, but Centennial Auto-Sport & Tire is a full Canadian dealer for Surron – there will be more.

HOW MUCH POWER?

A lot. But to be specific, when switched from Eco to Sports mode, the Light Bee X cranks out 6 kilowatts of power and 250 newton-metres of torque.

WHAT'S THE BATTERY?

The Surron Light Bee X operates with a 60-volt 32-amp lithium battery with 176 Panasonic cells.

HOW BIG IS IT?

The Surron Light Bee X has a 49.6-inch wheelbase (1,260mm) and is 73.6 inches (1,870mm) long overall, basically the size of a typical mountain bike.

HOW MUCH DOES IT ALL WEIGH?

The Light Bee X's aluminum frame weighs just 17 pounds. The motor adds 15 pounds. Total weight of the Surron Light Bee X is 110 pounds. That's about half the weight of a typical 250cc two-stroke dirt bike.

WHAT'S IT RUNNING FOR WHEELS AND BRAKES?

The Light Bee X rides on 19-inch wheels and 4-piston, titanium-finished hydraulic calipers.

WHAT'S THE SEAT HEIGHT?

The Light Bee X's seat sits between 84 and 88 centimetres, or 33.1 to 34.6 inches high.

HOW MUCH GROUND CLEARANCE?

There's 10.6 inches of ground clearance under the Sur Ron Light Bee X.

ARE THERE LIGHTS?

There sure are: LEDs at the front and back.

DOES AN ELECTRIC BIKE MAKE NOISE?

Sort of. Not really. The best way to describe the sound of a Surron is, well, to listen to a Surron. Watch this video from the Australian Army while they tested Sur Ron bikes and you'll hear – albeit barely – the whir of electricity, the spinning of tires, and the impact of suspension.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CHARGE?

Depending on capacity, the Surron Light Bee X should complete a full charge in 2.5 to 3.5 hours. The first few charges on a brand new battery pack are likely to take longer. You'll plug your charger into a normal three-prong outlet; the Surron's charge port is just ahead of the seat. An LCD indicator will alert you to your charged capacity.

WHAT'S THE RIDING RANGE?

Range is remarkably difficult to predict because it's a very rider-dependent and terrain-dependent metric. Just as you'd expect on a gasoline-powered bike, range is reduced if you're hitting the throttle harder and driving in low-traction or hilly environments as opposed to steady-state cruising. However, Surron says that the Light Bee X should travel 100 kilometres at 32 km/h.

IS IT ROAD LEGAL?

No, the Surron Light Bee X is not road legal in Prince Edward Island. Surron sells the Light Bee X with the "sole intention for off road or race track use only."

WHAT DOES SURRON UNBOXING LOOK LIKE?

Here's what it looks like when a Surron Light Bee X arrives before assembly.

ARE THERE OTHER SURRON BIKES?

Yes, the Light Bee X is just one of three bikes in the Surron range. Think of the Light Bee S as a youth-oriented version of the Light Bee X. There's MX-style suspension, a 48-volt lithium battery pack, 17-inch wheels, and 220 newton-meters of torque in Sports mode. The Light Bee S weighs 106 pounds and is priced from $4,100. At the top of the Surron lineup is the Storm Bee F. Priced from $10,999, the Storm Bee is a true dirt bike alternative, albeit with electric power. A ton of electric power: 520 newton-meters of torque and roughly 120 kilometres of range. The North American version of the 2023 Surron Storm Bee F will also include a switchable headlight and number plate.
