What you want, of course, is a Suzuki V-STROM. It's a done deal. That's just the way the cookie crumbles – the V-STROM is this remarkably automatic choice for ADV riders because it's hugely capable, very affordable, and tremendously dependable. It's always been this way. And Suzuki isn't going to mess with the formula.

For 2020, the revamped top-spec V-STROM takes on a new name. No longer is the big V-STROM the V-STROM 1000 – now it's the V-STROM 1050. 

So, there's a bigger engine, right? Well, not exactly. In fact, the V-STROM's engine is still at 1037cc, exactly the same as it was in 2019. But there are big differences. Here are the top five ways in which the 2020 V-STROM is the new V-STROM.

5. MORE MODES: There are new a trio of drive modes and four traction control modes, plus the ECU is faster.

4. MORE COOLING: A properly ridden V-STROM lives a hard life, or at least a life that would be hard for virtually any other motorcycle. So for 2020, the V-STROM 1050 has 15% more cooling with a fan-assisted radiator.

3. MORE TECH: From the Easy Start System that ignites the 1050 in the blink of an eye to combined braking (which applies some rear brake pressure if the front brake is applied to a certain degree) to an LCD screen and a USB charging port to the rider's left, the V-STROM moves into the future.

2. MORE POWER: The 1037cc V-twin is more powerful than any V-STROM before: 106 horsepower at 8,500 rpm.

1. MORE EFFICIENCY: Power and efficiency have always been at odds. Power tilts the scale one way, economics tilt the scale the other way. In the 2020 V-STROM however, you get balance. "Both the exhaust and intake camshafts are changed so valve lift is increased," Suzuki says, "and the valve-timing has less overlap to boost engine power while reducing fuel consumption."
