Major Moto Milestone: Honda Built Its 400,000,000th Motorcycle In 2019
Honda, the planet's foremost motorcycle manufacturer, built its 300 millionth motorcycle in 2014, 65 years after building its first. Only five years later, another 100 million motorcycles means Honda built its 400 millionth motorcycle in 2019.
The rate of production increases speaks to Honda's global appeal and the breadth of the Honda motorcycle lineup. Over the course of seven decades, from the first Dream D-Type to the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP to the new CRF1100 Africa Twin and everything in between, Honda has made it a priority to cater to literally every kind of motorcycle rider: kids who can hop on a CRF50 dirt bike, experienced riders who want to cross provinces on a Gold Wing, and riders who find the best of everything ithe CB650R.
So, how did Honda get to 400,000,000? Adding production locations was key. Honda builds motorcycles in 21 countries at 35 different manufacturing plants. In fact, Honda's been building motorcycles in North America since 1979. Since then, Honda has added key plants in China (1992), Vietnam (1997), India (2001), and Bangladesh (2013). Honda had its first year of building 20 million motorcycles in 2018.
It took 48 years to reach 100,000,000; another 11 years to reach 200,000,000; six more years to reach 300,000,000; and a final five years to hit the 400-million-unit milestone. Here's to the 500,000,000 mark.
