Is this not the best news you've received all summer? The Monkey is coming back.

The 2022 Honda Monkey is, well, let's just lay all our cards on the table: it's gorgeous. This is classic mini-motor design with all the modern benefits of a reliable 124cc four-stroke powerplant, 5-speed transmission, ABS disc brakes, LED lighting, inverted front fork, and ridiculous fuel efficiency. The Monkey will cruise very nicely thanks to its light 231-pound fully fuelled weight. With such a low weight, the 2022 Monkey is a remarkably nimble corner carver.

But light weight pays other dividends when it comes to parking, storage, and loading into the back of a truck or trailer. It's easy. The low seat height makes it easy, too. It's just 30.5 inches, so you'll have no difficulty flat-footing at the stop light or when parking.

The Monkey's history is a global story but is only just beginning in Canada. In the early 1960s, the Monkey got its start in a Japanese amusement Park: Honda's own Tama Tech Park. Honda quickly realized the bike had real market potential in Japan. By 1967, the Monkey – officially known by that point as the Z50M – was available in Europe. A year later, the Z50A became a U.S.-market bike on which thousands of people learned to ride a motorcycle.

With many updates and plenty of tinkering, the Monkey persevered through 2017 in many global markets. Honda then introduced an all-new Grom-based Monkey only a year later. Now, the new Monkey finally lands in Canada.

The 2022 Honda Monkey is set to arrive in Canada in the fall of 2021 priced at just $5,299.

"It’s about the same price as a low-end electric mountain bike," CycleNews says, "that doesn’t look nearly as good and won’t last nearly as long. Also, you will never look as cool (or cool at all) on an electric mountain bike. It’s not possible."
